Horoscope for the Year 2019
Horoscope for the Year - 2019
2019, the last year of the second decade of the 21st Century begins! In this introduction section, I will weave some insights from Numerology and the Tarot and a pinch of Chinese Astrology, as well. I usually do so when giving Readings, although due to time restraints I do not always mention it. I will elaborate on Chinese New Year closer to date in early February.
An overview of the general rhythm and flow in 2019 is as follows:
The year will take off early in a rather dramatic manner due to the Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on January 6th and the Lunar Eclipse two weeks later at 0 Leo 52 under a Super Full Moon. This tempo will remain high through to about mid to late February, for many, but begins to calm down, a little, and even go the opposite direction, for a while at least at a personal level, due to the presence of Mercury in Pisces as of February 10th and then the Sun there by the 18th. Due to Mercury turning retrograde in Pisces in March, Mercury will remain in the 12th sign, the sign of mysticism, meditation and retreat, until April.
Then the momentum will pick-up noticeably again, even getting dramatic by late May and will remain so pretty much for the remainder of the year, save for a calmer window between mid-August and late September. The Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn in July will deliver yet another shock-wave of change, especially for those who have planets in Cardinal Signs near those degrees. 2019 will prove to be a rather dramatic year with its shares of highs and lows, but more high than low, save for late winter/early spring.
I will elaborate more closely on these themes in my Weekly Horoscopes especially over the course of the year.
When added, the numbers in 2019 = 12 & 1+2 = 3, Making it a Universal 3-Year.
Number 3 in Numerology is symbolically associated with Jupiter. Since it is in its own sign of Sagittarius this year, it is quite apt. 3 is the number of sensitivity and especially about the spontaneous and authentic expression of ones’ feelings, which ideally and often amounts to some form of artistry. When 1 is the Sun or male and 2 is the Moon or female, 3 is the child, the offspring of their union. Jupiter can and often does appear as the brightest planet in the sky and it most certainly is the largest planet. In fact, Jupiter is larger than all the planets, moons, comets, asteroids and any other body in the entire solar system, added together. So, like Jupiter and like a child, the energetic expression can be understood to be BIG.
3 is the Empress in the Tarot, which holds close association with Venus. In some respects, motherliness is involved. Yet Arcana 3 is more fully about the beauty of the feminine in all her beauty, fullness, abundance and splendor. The expression of both lover and mother expresses the Empress best. She has the ability to bring forth life and this thereby reveals her inherent power and her spiritual connection. Yet, she is about manifest beauty. This is not to say it is solely about physical beauty. Rather, it is a weave of the physical and spiritual and thereby reveals beauty that comes from within and is expressed outwardly. When this occurs, revealing a deep blend of awareness, wholeness, balance and harmony, such beauty is undeniable and a blessing to behold.
Procreation and offspring are the purpose and function of the physical, manifest universe. They can be understood as the spirit made manifest for the purpose of fulfilling the great ‘Plan’, which can be understood as divinity experiencing itself with all receptors operative and the senses fully activated with which to engage and share with others, who can also be understood as other expressions of the one SELF.
Negatively, the influence of # 3 can manifest as indecision born of a lack of discernment, self-doubt and unclear priorities or, ironically, of too many options. This can manifest as worry, confusion, depression, heaviness, brooding, distrust, sorrow, of doom and gloom and even of despair which can lead to rash choices and action justified as desperate measures based on desperate feelings.
3 can be understood as a theme of completion, as well. The fact that it is the last year of this decade supports this theme. This idea will be further elaborated below when I outline the emphasis on Capricorn which will be very strong in 2019, below. This theme of completions can be made clearer by the fact that 3 x 3 is the basis of 9, the official number of endings and graduations. Thus we have 3 wishes, 3 strikes, and more... 'archetypally' speaking, 3 sides of the triangle which when expressed in 3-D, manifests as the tetrahedron or the basis of crystalline structures from which all things in existence share a commonality.
Decisiveness and discipline are the keys to overcoming this negative condition. When we realize that every problem contains its own solution and when we engage our thoughts in processes of creative thinking and brain-storming for example, we quickly see how despair can be understood as a lack of clear thinking or a lack of imagination.
Thus, many will be challenged in 2019 to assume an attitude of deciphering how to make wise choices and decisions by a thorough examination of the possibilities available. Fortunately, we live in a time when there are more options available probably than any other time in history. This realization can prove to be a saving grace in the months to come.
Yet, it remains important to consider that the number 12 is derived from adding the numbers 2+0+1+9, which can basically be understood as a principle of surrender. 2019 = 12 In the Tarot, Major Arcana 12 is the proverbial “Hanged Man”. Sometimes by force, while at other times by choice, we can find ourselves hanging upside down thereby seeing the world as with new ideas. Obviously, making the choice to do so is ideal, yet it is not always so simple and easy to do.
Yet, to elaborate more fully, this surrender is not necessarily about defeat, rather it is about surrendering to change and the inevitable need to adapt to it, and so it includes the intention and determination to choose to see ones’ self and the world and ones’ self in the world in new ways. Pisces is the 12th and last sign of the Zodiac and thereby is symbolic of this principle of endings linked to 3.
The following sign, Aries, which represents the beginning of a new cycle and of pioneering initiatives, lends a hint at what must occur. In short, the willingness to surrender the old ways and patterns of behavior, stale ideologies, narrow-mindedness and dogmatic beliefs, perceptions and attitudes that no longer serve, in order to incorporate new ones, is what # 12 is symbolically about.
Planets in Signs and Key Aspects in 2019
What is extra interesting about 2019 is that Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune are each in the sign they rule. Planets rule signs and when they transit through them they take on a status of honor. However, when there is more than one planet in honor, they each tend to vie for attention and this can produce something of a stalemate. In other words, it can prove more difficult to make clear decisions that emphasize focused action. This is quite evident when it is present in ones’ Birth Chart. The same principle applies at the other end of the pole when no planet is in honor, but can be understood to have less overall potency.
Mars holds the distinction of being both one of the ‘personal planets’ including Mercury, Venus Sun and Moon, and is the first of the outer planets. Mars is very much about action and can be understood as the “verb” in the equation. Over the course of 2019, Mars will transit through 9 signs, Aries through Scorpio, thus spending an average of six weeks in each sign. Thus, it begins the year in honor in its own sign and ends the year in honor in the sign it co-rules, Scorpio. This can be interpreted to be both auspicious but also somewhat dire as it is very assertive and even aggressive and violent in these signs.
Among the more interesting aspects over the course of the year is Mars conjunct Uranus in Aries in mid-February at the 29th degree. Although Mars conjunct Uranus is not very rare, occurring ever few years or so, that the conjunction occurs at the 29th degree, does shed an extra special light upon it. Also, it so happens, Chiron will simultaneously be at the 29th degree of Pisces. While Mars will be at this critical degree for just 1-day, Uranus will be there for 1-month from February 6th to March 6th.
Jupiter in Sagittarius began in early November 2018 and continues until early December 2019. It is quite fortunate that this honorable Fire Element planet and sign combination lasts so long. Jupiter in Sagittarius will inspire many to greatness, to take risks and reach for the stars. Where it is situated for each of us is where we will experience expansion, optimism and opportunity. Given all of the rather heavy Capricorn energy, it is a blessing to have Jupiter in its own sign this year. Negatively, it is likely to manifest as righteousness and fanaticism even.
Chiron meanwhile will be at 29 Pisces from January 28 to February 18th, or 20-days. This can be interpreted as the need to push through inertia, apathy and confusion regarding the need to address the indication of the ill and lost soul. The 29th degree represents themes of loneliness and the need to persevere to overcome what can otherwise be understood as neglected areas of focus. 29 Pisces is literally the last degree of the entire Zodiac cycle, so it carries with it the added weight of all of the 11 previous signs….
It is also significant that Uranus in the late degree of Aries begins the year at the apex or mid-point of the Lunar North and South Nodes in Cancer and Capricorn, respectively. A planet at the apex in this regard takes on added emphasis suggesting that we are heading into 2019 with some measure of charge. So, we can expect that 2019 will also reveal a measurable degree of revolutionary energy, especially early on in the year.
The Nodes specifically in Cancer and Capricorn refers to an evolutionary process of activating a collective reach for emotional intelligence and the value of seeing the humor amidst all the dramas of life. The pull of Capricorn at the South Node will prove especially strong with Saturn and Pluto there mixing it up over the course of the entire year, suggests that achieving the objectives of the Cancer North Node will may prove harder than it might otherwise. Although a feminine sign, Capricorn and Saturn are linked to father and, by extension, to the patriarchy. Planets conjunct the South Node do have a magnetic effect, but it can be interpreted as negative, like water draining from a loose plug in an otherwise perfect hot bath of water. Or, it can be seen as unwanted water coming in through a hole in the boat. Either way, although there are some exceptions at particular or odd moments, planets at the South Node are generally unfavorable. They represent energy forcibly going where it is undesired.
The Lunar North Node in Cancer collaborates with the Empress. While the Moon can be better understood as the High Priestess in the Tarot, it represents both the mother and the deeper mysteries as we see with Sophia in the Gnostic tradition. It is the root of the feminine principle whereas the Empress can be understood as the expression and even assertion of the female force. The archetype of the Moon can be understood as a process of giving birth, which can certainly be painful. Yet, it is the beauty and glory of new life that is emphasized. It is also about cultivating innocence and the spontaneous spirit of the child.
The playful and light-hearted atmosphere of children with their parents is when the child infectiously evokes the child within the parent to let go of worldly duties and responsibilities for a while. This is a qualitative moment in time and does not need to endure endlessly because the quality is such that it counters the quantity of all the other aspects of life such that a spirit of child-like laughter and play are ever-present and ready to re-emerge quickly and easily even if for short bouts.
Also, because the sign of Cancer is ruled by the fast-moving Moon, which is why it is directly, linked to our ever-changing moods or to moodiness, we are oriented towards balance over the course of the day which implies that our activities do and ideally should, therefore, be varied. Too much of anything begins to produce its opposite and here again we are reminded of the importance of variety and the principle of quality over quantity.
In its deeper respects, the North Node in Cancer will serve to remind us that we are souls incarnate and that ultimately, life is a game, an illusion, an invitation to play and to be creative and to enjoy the full spectrum of flavors and sensual appetites of life. Doing so serves to counterbalance the otherwise heavy and painful reality in the physical. After all, the Moon is about emotions and feelings. It is this very contrast that makes it so special and why keeping the child alive in our hearts and minds, regardless of our age is a gift we give to ourselves and others too.
To elaborate, the most significant set of aspects of the year occurs between the Lunar South Nodes, Pluto and Saturn all in Capricorn. As Saturn approaches Pluto from one side the South Node approaches from the other, as 2019 gets underway. The impact of this will begin to be felt as early as February and outer synchronicities will become increasingly evident by Spring Equinox. The South Node and Pluto will be exactly conjunct on April 4th. The South Node and Saturn will then be exactly conjunct on April 24th and it so happens the Moon by transit will conjunct them both at that very time.
Moreover, due to Saturn turning retrograde it and the South Node and Pluto will all hover in close proximity All the way through to and into October. Then Saturn will begin to move towards Pluto again and while it will come within 1 degree by late 2019, it will take until the beginning of the 3rd decade or the millennium or January 12th, 2020, to be exact, before they actually form a conjunction. Yet, as dramatic as these aspects are likely to be, especially manifesting along the lines of the themes outlined above linked to the numbers 3 and 12, this reveals that 2019 will prepare the ground for a much more pivotal and assertive year in 2020.
Two eclipse seasons are the norm and this is true of 2019.
This first starts early when on January 5th a Partial Solar Eclipse at 15 Capricorn 25 serves to activate new initiatives. Then on January 20th, the day the Sun enters Aquarius, there will be a Lunar Eclipse with a Super Moon status at 0 Leo 52. Lunar Eclipses have a way of revealing what has been previously hidden, especially in our relationships, if changes are destined.
The second eclipse season occurs in July when on July 2 at 10 Cancer 38, a Total Solar Eclipse will take place and will trigger the changes destined to occur in our lives. Then on July 16 a partial Lunar Eclipse at 24 Capricorn 04 will bring important changes to light that had been brewing at subconscious levels.
Among other things, this indicates that there will be a Solar and a Lunar Eclipse both in Capricorn within 9-degrees of each other, yet also a little over 6-months apart. Thus, people with planets especially in the 2nd and 3rd decants of Capricorn or 10 to 29 degrees especially, but also of Aries, Cancer and Libra will be activated quite strongly before the summer, let alone year, is out! These should not be interpreted as negative, per se, but they do indicate probable changes so it will be wise to be flexible, cooperative and even pro-active if you have planets or angles in this range of degrees and signs.
With two eclipses in Capricorn, an Earth Element sign, the influence will be upon the economy and major institutions or organizations, large companies and industries altogether. We should expect that there will be a lot of shaking and quaking in these areas and perhaps both literally as well, as in the form of earthquakes. The presence of Pluto makes these especially powerful. In this regard 2019 will not be average at all, in fact, it stands to be epic, yet not entirely in the ways we would have it.
Epic in this regard implies major changes and challenges to the status quo coming from hidden places, such as within the earth. Secrets could also be flushed to the surface. Paragons of power both in terms of individual leadership and long-standing and otherwise seemingly well-established organizations of power may fall or at least undergo major change and transformation. Of course, when this happens others often rise to replace them, but not all the time or right away. In this regard, 2019 may prove difficult economically as well for many. In all of these regards, this last year of the 2nd decade of the 3rd Millennium is likely to prove historic and, in some regards, quite challenging for us all.
The Year of the Fire Boar begins on February 4th/5th (depending on what time zone you are in) indicated by the New Moon in Aquarius.
On a final note, it is worth mentioning now that 2020 will begin with a stellium of 4 planets, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto plus the South Node all in Capricorn, as well. In this regard, 2019 may again be understood as setting the stage or building the momentum, in some regards, for the even bigger eventful change scheduled for 2020, the year of the Emperor.
